OUR SERVICES
The Mahnomen EDA provides many services to the area
The goal of these services is to improve the local economy and create a higher standard of living for all residents of the region.
Job Creation
Employment levels are one of the single biggest factors in a thriving economy. The Mahnomen EDA is aware of this fact, and job creation is one of the primary focuses of the EDA and its partners. Job creation is supported by providing training and support to prospective businesses, as well as all existing businesses and industries in the region.
The Mahnomen EDA partners with Headwaters Regional Development Commission (HRDC) to implement job creation strategies. The Headwaters Regional Finance Corporation (HRFC) is a subsidiary of HRDC with the responsibilities of administering revolving loan funds for business development:
-
Revolving Loan Fund Business Financing
-
Specialize in “Gap” Financing
-
Loan to Startups, for Expansions, etc.

Creating Affordable Housing
Existing homes in Mahnomen, like all rural areas, are aging and becomingly increasingly unaffordable. The Mahnomen EDA directs much of their resources towards creating affordable housing in the region. When the County gains ownership of a property, the EDA works with their partners to determine rehabilitation and new construction options. Once the home(s) are considered safe and habitable, the EDA then works to provide the housing to low-income eligible residents.
Environmental Work
The Mahnomen EDA is committed to providing the best quality of life possible for the citizens of our region. Public health, and our quality of life, is directly linked to the wellbeing of our environment. The Mahnomen EDA partners with Clean Energy Resource Team (CERTS); their mission is to connect individuals and communities in Minnesota to the resources they need to identify and implement community-based clean energy projects. The EDA also provides grant writing services, and many of these grants are focused on environmental work.

Economic Insight and advice
The Mahnomen EDA provides professional leadership and guidance to local businesses and organizations. With support from their partners, the EDA has developed meaningful relationships and contacts with many local, state, and federal agencies. As a result, much of the Economic Development work is simply acting as a liaison, and the EDA utilizes these contacts to assist organizations on a regional level. Among all the ways the EDA can support the region, grant writing assistance is one of the most common.
